What’s on Our Radar: LIGHT. EVE. SOLDIERS. FIRE.

LESF The Light (Alex Chua)

  • Language: English
  • Director: Alex Chua
  • Starring: Michael Chen, Tania Knutt, Malik Taufiq, Alexis Wong & Ali Motamedi

It seems as though there’s no stopping our very own star and ReelityTV Producer, Michael Chen. Just months after starring in local blockbuster film, “Tombiruo”, as the gun-toting villain, Wong, Michael decides to return to the world of acting. This time on stage rather than on screen.

Now, balancing two jobs whilst taking on any acting job he can is no easy feat, but it just goes to show that if there’s a will, there’s a way.

Michael is the perfect example of this.

So what is “The Light” about?

“The Light” is part of a collection of plays called “LIGHT. EVE. SOLDIERS. FIRE” (LESP). It is about Laina, a prolific writer who returns to Malaysia after being away for 10 years. But instead of returning to the sweet comfort of her home country, she finds that her childhood home lies buried under a landslide, her brother is confined in a psych ward and there’s just something, something very strange about the way everyone is acting around her that she can’t quite figure out.

What is going on? What is happening?

As the world she has always known collapses in on itself, she struggles to navigate through this new, crumbling landscape of life she has been given. Will she escape the maze of her fractured mind? If she does, what secrets will she unearth? There is only one way to find out.

But wait! There’s way more where that came from

As mentioned, LESP is a collection of plays, all of which feature different creative processes, styles and thought-provoking themes. Along with “The Light”, the other plays it has to offer are called “Project Eve”, “Soldiers” and “Api, Jangan Lupa Api”.

What makes this assortment of works particularly interesting is that they are each spearheaded by different directors, and therefore possess the unique voice of each.

So if you’re in for some fun and haven’t been to the local theatre in a while, might I suggest a trip to check out LESP? ;)
